Smoke and Mirrors

The wildfire smoke has finally cleared and the collective respiratory health of northern NV is climbing back to clean and clear unless you wander inside a casino.  Earlier this month, I hit Lake Davis with my friend Gill and his fish-finder Ellie (both pictured above).  Current water conditions have been pushing schools of rainbows close to shore, but we must have caught their last lap because things went silent after about seven minutes.

Still-water fishing is not my strength.  In fact, the sense of confidence I feel on the river is absent when I’m standing in water that’s not moving.  I stood there stripping my leeches, feeling the already tiny hope I had at the day’s start shrink even smaller.  Fishing a lake like Davis feels like staring at my unskilled and amateur reflection.  I probably won’t ever get the reps I need to have a place like that dialed in.  I’m ok with that.
